Zaca fire update

The good news is that the Zaca fire is burning northeast, away from Santa Barbara. Officials have reopened the route 154 and lifted the evacuation order for the Peachtree Community. It appears that Santa Barbara is no longer threatened immediately by the fire. The hard working firefighters have established control lines along the southern front that are holding for now. However, until the fire is completely out or into Ventura county, Santa Barbara and Montecito residents should not let their guard down.

The Inciweb site that I have been using for updates has been down for about two days now. There are a few others sites to check. The SB Fire page is updated regularly. The County of Santa Barbara site has press releases and daily video updates from officials on the progress of firefighting efforts.

To follow-up on my building protection post, there is a great video over at the County of Santa Barbara site that discusses the efforts to protect the old Cold Springs Tavern. <video>

I also wanted to give a huge thank you to the firefighters and officials that are coordinating the fire fighting efforts. Without their actions, who knows how bad this fire could have been. Thank you!!
